The National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives (NUFTO) was formed in 1947 from an amalgamation between the National Amalgamated Furnishing Trades' Association and the Amalgamated Union of Upholsterers. The United French Polishers' Society joined the union in 1969 and the Midland Glass Bevellers' and Kindred Trades' Society in 1970.
